Born and raised in Oberlin, Ohio.
Two older brothers, we were approx. 3. 5 years apart.
Heritage:
- Ukrainian grandparents on my mother’s side. My mother immigrated from the Ukraine to Canada when she was four.
- Grandparents on my father’s side of European dissent. Austrian Jewish and Scots/Irish. Both sides settled in Northern Ohio.
- My father was an engineer, and a Boy Scout leader.
- My mother was a professor of English, and a first generation feminist.
Upbringing:
- Ms. Hawkins, the woman who raised us.
- Vietnamese refugees lived in our home from 1974-79.
- Girl scouts: 1984-1990.

Hi, Honey. Just want to correct that first sentence under “Heritage”. I was born in Ukraine, but my parents and I spent five years in Displaced Persons Camps in Austria and Germany after World War Two, and we came to Canada when I was six.
